There was a link to a reversible fan speed control on the picture section with a question:
[www.rodbuilding.org] The question was asked if this particular control could be used with typical universal ac/dc motors. When you do the search on the associated motor link, this motor comes up: [www.grainger.com] This particular motor is a split capacitor AC motor. So, with the extra motor leads on this motor and the terminals on the controller for the leads, this controller will work to reverse the split capacitor motor. A split capacitor motor uses a capacitor to aid in starting the motor. Depending on which wires the capacitor gets connected, the motor can rotate either clockwise or counter clockwise. However, the typical universal AC/DC motor does not use a capacitor for starting and hence, this particular controller can not be used to reverse the direction of this style motors.
