Don,
apart from the double foot, does this differ in hight from the current 30/8 castaway one?

Thanks for the question Lou,

The height does vary along with a lot more differences....

The MW30 is a brand new design and not designed around the 30/8.

The MW30 is a SYSTEM like the rest of the MicroWave offerings while the Castaway product is simply a guide.

Of Course it is a 30/10 not 30/8.

It is a double foot designed stripping and transition guide with solid leg snagless running guides.

The ring sizes/dimensions/locations are different. That said, this MW30 set will cover more applications more effectively than the 30/8.

Have never used the microwave system but would like to. What would be the right size (and how many guides) for an 8' Surf rod (St. Croix Ben Doerr Surf System SS80M), used primarily on a boat for casting 1 - 2 oz bucktails with a Penn Slammer 460 reel......Also, are there guide placement instructions online? Thanks, Steven

We are currently building some rods with these and have sold a few sets (shipping all over the world). They are fantastic! The set comes with 7 total guides and instructions for 7 foot through 8 foot long rods. Even though the chart calls for 7 guides on an 8 foot rod you may need more or less depending on the handle length and rod action. We have both the microwave 30 kits and extra running guides in stock and shipping everyday.

Steven......You are gonna love these!

If you are going to run a long surf rod handle you should be okay with what comes in the kit.... but it never hurts to have an extra guide just in case

If you have any questions about any MicroWave guides or any AT component feel free to give me a call 800-516-1750 ext 1207

Steve...

It will vary from rod to rod.... you may need 7 to 9.

The MicroWave 30 set....
30/10mm Stripping Guide
10mm Transition Guide
8mm Running Guides

The MicroWave 50 set...
50/30mm Stripping Guide
16mm Transition Guide
12mm Running Guides

The 50's were originally designed for carp and surf rods

The 30's are designed as a "big game" guide. A lot more uses for this set.

Don: For the 8' rod, casting bucktails, with a Penn Slammer 460 would seem like the 30 set is more appropriate......lower, smaller guides.....the 50 would seem to be too high, guides too big.....don't you think?

Don,
On a 7-7'6 inshore rod running 10-14lbs mono would you recommend the mw30 or the mw.
