Hi,
I like the look of reel seats with the wood insert. I want to put a few saltwater fly rods together with them. Even with an aluminum reel seat I flush, clean and dry the rod before stowing it. Are there any other care tips that would make the wood better withstand the harsh saltwater conditions it is exposed to or is it just waste? Regards, Cory Re: Reel seat care

Add a coat of exterior urethane to the wood insert before you assemble the seat. Re: Reel seat care

What are some of the better water-based urethanes? The one I have now is too hot for Plasti Kote. Re: Reel seat care

Defthane is good for a water based product.
