Are blanks that are un-finished - no paint or clear coat, just sanded - any less durable? Are there ever issues with graphite fibers splintering slightly over time and sticking up? Thanks - Marc Keep it simple - that's all I can handle! Re: Un-finished Rod Blanks (sanded only)

If you recall this is exactly how the G. Loomis IMX blanks were offered for many years. No less durability, no problem with fibers splintering. It's really a non-issue. If you want the absolute most performance from a blank, it's the best way to go.

All my personal fly rods are raw carbon. The CTS' P2000 finish.
As Tom says - for the lightest build. No durability issues. Paint does weigh something - especially in tip areas. Herb Distrib. CTS Rod Blanks Re: Un-finished Rod Blanks (sanded only)

It does beg the question as to why some brands will void warranty if you remove finish with even the most mild of solvents. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Un-finished Rod Blanks (sanded only)

Russell, it's because they cannot control what you do in removing the finish. Some may do no harm, others? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
