Building a century rod sling shot blank. I want to make it as light as possible if I don't use an under wrap I'm afraid over time the guide will dig into the blank (someone told me this) Re: To under wrap or not

If the guide feet are flat across their bottoms, they will not dig into the blank. Thread wouldn't stop that from happening anyway.
Do make sure there are no sharp burrs or rough edges against the rod blank. .................... Re: To under wrap or not

Hi,
Sometimes I under wrap and sometimes I don't. My personal rods are used in salt water up to about 100' depths and they are not under wrapped. Some customers want under wraps as they can have an extra color in the guide wraps. Others that don't want under wraps are more interested in lessening the over ll weight. Prior to epoxy finishes we used marine spar varnish to coat the wraps. I would have to do my Father's rods twice a season. The salt water and sun would cause the varnish to crack and water would get into the wraps. Then the wraps would loosen and the guide was able to turn. That might cause damage to the blank. I do not see loose wraps these days thanks to epoxy finishers. Capt Neil Faulkner Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
