door damage if you put the rod between the door an the door jam an shut the door on the rod you get door damage I think,
this can be just a little or big damage it all depends on how much force on the door to shut it

Craig,
Put your rod into an open door and slam the door.

That action will cause "door damage". It is a malady that is generally fatal for most fishing rods.

Be safe

reading these posts it all sounds like User Error
if he tried to get his hook out from a tree or whatever you do not use the rod to do so Like said Aim the rod at the tree or whatever and let the Reel do the job

If he closed a Door on the rod --- no one seen this ????? and as he used the rod -- of course it broke - User Error

I do not think it was or had anything to do with the guide

Then after being wrapped - guides are aligned if they move to easy - they are wrapped to lose

Maybe it is time for this builder to learn about building rods
Not trying to be a hard ass - but it is all Common sense

Bill,

Your input on this forum has been a big part of my learning over the past five years since I built my first fly rod. Thank you for that.

In your post above are you suggesting that this is not a place where I should be learning about building rods?

Lamiglas was unable to find a replacement for the section I broke.

Dillan's assessment was that the blank had been crushed, wraps were not too tight or loose. While no door crush was involved, I have a couple of ideas of when the crush might have occurred.

Thanks again for the input.
