bought an old bamboo fly rod to re-furbish.. since it is my first endeavor and there are no markings, i need to know how to determine what "weight" the rod is..
it is a "convertible " rod from fly to spin, depending on which way one switches the handle . probably of Japanese origin. it is a 9', three piece rod. thanks, Re: how to determine "weight" of fly old bamboo fly rod

About the best you can do would be to run the CCS numbers on it and then use the ERN to convert power to a fly line number. You can use ERN=ELN as a starting point although that may not give you the rod's original rating.
Most of the convertible rods I've seen were originally sold as 6-weight rods, or thereabouts. ............... Re: how to determine "weight" of fly old bamboo fly rod
