It can be cut off, for sure. Spiral cut the seat being careful not to cut into the blank. Once through, insert a screwdriver and "pop" the seat apart and off the arbors.

Otherwise, there is some slight chance it can removed by setting the rod butt in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes.

I use a Dremel tool with an abrasive cut off wheel to cut through the reel seat, but not the blank.

I make one cut down one side of the reel seat and another cut down the other side of the reel seat. I put a screwdriver in the slot, twist, and the reel seat pops apart and falls off of the rod.

Glenn

The only thing I can add to roger's advise is to securely clamp the seat in a vise and use two hands to cut the seat this will avoid the tendency for the Dremel to to slip or wander.

Marty,
Pretty simple, a bit of heat from a heat gun and a razor knife and it will be clean in a heart beat. When you remove the glue, hold the razor knife perpendicular or at 90 degrees to the blank to perform a scraping action as opposed to a cutting action.
If you hold the razor knife at a low angle to the blank to cut off the glue and arbor, you run the risk of shaving off graphite from the blank, if the knife slips.

As long as you don't overdo the heat, the heat will soften the materials and make for easy removal. If you overdo the heat you run the risk of affecting the rod blank. So, use just enough heat to accomplish your objective.

Be safe

Roger i'm sure it works for you, but ive tried your method and its not for me.

The amount of heat required to soften fully-cured 2- ton epoxy just aint good right next to a resin cured carbon blank.

i prefer the long and laborious road.
