Flex Coat 120 RPM/200 RPM Dryer Motor

Seen a post where some rod builders apply finish at speeds up to 200 rpms. I am currently using a 36 rpm motor and its too slow. But the only motors I have found are Flexcoat and the cost for the 120 rpm is $531 and the 200 rpm is over $600. For you rod builders that use the faster motor, where did you get your motor? I need a source. There has got to be a better price out there.

If you have a power wrapper, apply your finish on that, then transfer the rod to your dryer.

To start with, your topic is incorrect as a Dryer motor. The 200 RPM is a finishing machine. I would suggest you check with Karen @ Bingham ent, that is where I got mine from. Also it is not just the motor, it is the complete machine with adjustable rollers, and it spans 8' in length. I might also add that it comes with a slip clutch to ease application like tunnels, hook keepers, etc

If your handy, You could always get a DC12v wallwart and run one of these off it, [www.amazon.com] [www.amazon.com] The speed control if you want it is below, You would have make a PVC chuck for it. Or find an old sewing machine at a resale or re-purpose store for the motor and foot pedal and build from that. Just a thought. Jaa

Thank you for your input. Criticism however, if that's what is was, is unnecessary and rude.

Definitely was not meant as criticism, if it was taken that way, then my apologies.

High RPM is good to coat the thread faster But 200 RPM to me is a little high
I would also think after finish is on that most lower the rpm to level the finish and let excess drip off

Kerry, I use a 66RPM motor from Grainger with a Flex-Coat slip clutch attached to the shaft for a finishing motor. The item number is: 1MBF9, 115 volt. it cost $115.85 plus tax and shipping.
The one I replaced was the same and it lasted over 20 years. There phone number is: 1 800 323 0620. Hope this helps. E.P.
