Currently I have a customer with a Phenix M1 MX-78-B 7'8" rod and he says it lacks in power with the 5.5 tip. He would like a Rod Geek C4 in his colors. The only problem is that they don't make 7'8" blank. In order to get the same specs as the M! which is 10-25 lb line and 1/2-2 oz lure I see a couple of blanks that can be made to do this. He uses this rod for a variety of applications .
The C476MHF is very close but would have to add two inches, The other is a C411XHF which would have to be cut down 3 inches, I think the C411 may be too stiff. Both of these have a 6.5 tip wich is two sizes larger than what he is using now. So I guess the question is... add on two inches or cut down three inches? Just wondering what others may suggest before I buy the blank. Tom Re: Rod Length question

I was thinking the same thing so this morning I ordered the shorter rod blank
Thanks for the input. Tom Re: Rod Length question

One key should be the action he desires. Shortening a blank will slow the action. Lengthening it will make the action faster.

Any perceived improvement would also add weight to the blank and slightly alter the action, usually not for the better. I would leave the length of the blank alone and use the 7'6" blank as is. I can't see any significant improvement of the blank over the original by either lengthening by two inches or shortening by three inches. If the client is fixated on the specific length, you of course satisfy the client. Many clients wouldn't even notice the difference, especially if the rod is performing the way they think it should. Just my opinion. Mileage may vary. Sadly, true logic doesn't always apply where clients are concerned. Re: Rod Length question

I'd use the 7'6" blank and squeeze another 2" out of it by gluing a butt cap insert into the end Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
