Hi everyone I am new to the fourm but have been building rods for about 3 years now I am building an 11' lamiglas gsb with a 2-4oz rating. (Spinning rod) I will be using fuji K series double guides. I am considering sizes 40-25-16-12-10-10-10-10. Just wanted a second opinion on what you think.

What size spinning reel and line,mono or braid. are you going to use on it?

I will be using an 8000 series shimano and braided line probably 40lb.

If you test cast with KW30 and KW30L as the stripper, I believe you will find one of them to be adequate.

Yeah a 30 would be the largest I would go with. There is a thread on the rod building forum at stripersonline where someone used a LC 20 going to kw and worked great with 40lb braid. I would also consider using size 8 or even 6 as runners to lighten the tip since it sounds like you won't have a shock leader knot going through the guides.

Those surf rod discussions on SOL are interesting. One thing learned is when using braid the height of the stripper ring is more important than its size. Although the big ring sized guides are higher, it is their height, not their bigger ring size, that make them work well. Don't forget, the higher ring allows the stripper to be placed closer to the reel, if need be. The LC 20 is the highest 20 available (to my knowledge). As you point out, someone figured out it works fine as a NGC stripper guide.

The builders there have been lobbying Fuji for a KW25H to fill in a KW gap in the NGC reduction train. So far, to no avail. I aggree with them that a high KW25 would make a good stripper guide for many surf rod applications.

The builders lobbying got their stripper guide already, fuji's new rv guides. Imo 40 is way too big for 40lb braid and an 8000 shimano. Im getting built a very similar setup for a 5k Saltiga/8k stella and Im using an 25 rv stripper down to size 8 runners since I want to pass knots. If not size 6 ldbs are the only runners I use anymore

Most builders aren't going to spend $60 for just one RV guide. Once they bring out the stainless version I will buy it and I am sure many others. If not maybe Alps or American Tackle will fill the void.
