Guide Spacing Help - Rainshadow Revelation 62M

I am placing an order for supplies to build a Rainshadow Revelation 6'2" Medium Power, Fast Action rod (REVS62M). Has anyone here buiult a similar setup on this rod? If so, would you be willing to share guide spacing and sizing? I will be using Fuji Alconite guides and building this with traditional guides. I know I can do the static test and 27x method, but figured I'd check in here with the experts to see if I could save myself some time. Below is my proposed guide train (sans spacing), please let me know if I should adjust at all. I am still a relative newbie to this hobby compared to most here so my ego won't take a hit if you tell me I am way off!

Fuji Alconite Y Frame
-Stripper: BYAG 20
-Reduction 1: BYAG 12
-Reduction 2: BYAG 8L
-Choke: BKBAG 6
-Runners: BLAG 6 (3 guides)
-Tip Top: BFAT 6

If you pre-choose your guide sizes then you're apt to force the line to take a path that is somewhat less than idea. Conversely, if you do the work (not hard) the line path will tell you what sizes are optimum.

Failing that you have a couple of good options. You can refer to the Angler's Resources online software for guide placement and sizing, or shoot an email to the folks at Batson who keep an extensive listing of various guide set ups for their blanks.

Thanks Tom. Unfortunately with my situation I do not have a stockpile of guides to use and follow the ideal sizing approach and typically only have guides and blanks on hands when i have an order or a rod I want to build for myself. I will check out the Anglers Resource site for their recommendations.

Thanks Bill. I spoke to someone at Batson not long ago and they were heckling on spacing as they only have a Blueprint for a micro guide setup on the site right now.

I would suggest adding a 16 and 10 This way IF you need them you have them Plus you start making up a stash

Nate

I just finished and delivered a light power 6'0" spinning rod using the same guide train as you listed above. I used #5 runners and tip instead of #6's but the reduction train was the same. BYAG20, BYAG12, BYAG8L, 5 - BMKLG05's (Batson - already had them) and a BFAT 5 - 5. This lineup worked well for the particular reel and blank that I used. Yours may vary a little. I don't have my spacing notes handy at the moment but I'm sure you can make your set-up work for you!

Thanks Roger!

I placed the order and included a 16 and 10, that should allow me some wiggle room for size and placement.

As Tom mentioned above, Batson has extensive information available including number, size and spacing of guides for many of their blanks. I have found their info to be very accurate and a great starting point.

Nate, having only built 4 rods thus far, I'm still pretty much a newbie. My last two builds were spinning rods, and I used the KR GPS software on the Angler's Resource web site, and let it tell me the guide sizes as well as their locations. The rods perform beautifully. Casting much better than any factory rod I've ever owned. You should definitely give it a try. At the very least, it will give you an excellent place to start.

It's really simple to use, and you only need to know a few of the dimensions for the rod in order for it to work. It gives you the measurements out to the choker guide. From there you'll be wanting to place the remainder of the running guides using static load testing.
