I am in the middle of my third build. Last night I opened new bottles of the epoxy to seal the guides using ProKote epoxy. When I opened the blue container it looked like it had crystalized and the top was sealed with epoxy. I took a stir and opened the opening then took both bottles and placed them in hot water for about 10 min. This helped the blue bottle, but when I mixed the two it had little bits of the epoxy that did not dissolve. The epoxy cleared up with the mixing but it still had the little particles that did not dissolve. I decided not to use it on the rod until I ask some questions. Was this a bad batch of epoxy, should I have done something else, or should I use it ? Thanks Phil Ayers

Sounds like the resin component needs a bit more warming to fully dissolve again. After loosening the cap, try 10 second bursts in a microwave until all the crystals have dissolved and the resin is thin and warm.

Ross is correct. You just need to get the resin a bit warmer to fully dissolve any crystals. This is a common scenario with epoxy resins and does not indicate that the epoxy has gone "bad."

Normally the warming and or insertion into a microwave and using the 10 second bursts will take care of the issue.

But, if you ever get a container, where you can not get every single particle of crystal liquified, discard the pair of bottle and get another set. It seldom, if ever happens, that the heating and or microwave does not clear up the issue, but you do NOT want to use an epoxy where one of the bottles still has undissolved crystals in it.

Not to say the others are wrong in suggesting 10 second bursts, but I will say that longer bursts can deform the bottles. Getting them too hot overall does the same,whether a series of 10 second bursts without brief cooling periods or just one long one. I seem to recall a single 15 second burst did mine in. Just be careful.
