Suppose you were interrupted in the middle of a wrap and needed to take time off for a few days or longer.

Is there a process to ensure that the threads already laid will not move, I was thinking perhaps a few extra wraps of high-adhesive masking tape?

Not a good idea to use high adhesive masking tape for nearly anything in rod building; including holding threads in place.

If you were really worried about it, you could use some heat shrink tubing - but I think that the best thing is to simply lay a dust cover over the rod and have no one or anything else touch the rod.

I should have clarified that I use double-sided tape to anchor each ends of the cross-wrap after every pass.

My concern is related to the possibility of the thread (or threads) lifting off the tape over time, causing that part of the pattern to loosen.

For an incomplete crosswrap, wrapping over the entire area with closely spaced thread with 1/16 inch gaps under high tension can help keep things in place. When ready to resume the wrap, remove the security thread and proceed.

Just wind over the butt and tip ends with some tape or threads. Unless somebody handles the rod, the wrap shouldn't shift or move.

Put masking tape over the ends of the dubble sided tape It will hold the thread in place

Like said put a wrap just after the tape

Thanks everyone for the tips, I like the idea of using thread.

It can get quite humid where I'm at, so having a means of securing an unfinished wrap besides just double-sided tape is important.
