Walleye jigging rod blank ?

Hello, I want to build a nice jigging rod, I was wondering what would be the best blank for me to build off of. I Want to keep my rod length short, probably 6' or 6'2". I want the rod to be very sensitive. I will be vertical jigging for walleye with live bait and plastic presentations. Any opinions will be much appreciated! Thank you in advance! -Mark

Personally, I would reach for my Batson 822.5 for that technique, but it's a little long for your taste. In your shoes, I would look at the Immortal Walleye blank that is 6'2" Medium power with an extra fast action.

I like the St. Croix 5SC63mxf for vertical jogging. If that is too heavy you can go with the ML.

One thing I'll add and I know not everyone here is a fan of Recoil guides, but for this presentation and that blank the Recoil guides are killer. Super lightweight, just make sure to add an extra runner to avoid flat spots.

I'm sure the Rainshadow blanks are great too, I just personally have not used them for this application.

X3 on Joe's recommendation.

Just finished building several rods on this blank for Walleye jigging and all of the clients love them.

Thank you for your support for RainShadow rod blanks!!

Here is some information to look at:

If you want to find others, type "walleye" in our search tab, and a few other models come up as well.

Still being a newbie to rod building I haven't built on many different kinds of blanks, but you may also want to take a look at the Pac Bay, Quickline series of blanks. Although being a little longer than you mentioned, I just built two drop shot / shaky head jig rods for bass on QLSJ782 blanks, and they turned out to be awesome rods. Light, and very sensitive, with a beautiful gloss black finish.

Check out the Batson Revelation 6'2" Med-lite or Medium. Excellent sensitivity, tough blank.

Thanks - Marc

Keep it simple - that's all I can handle!

Mark,
MHX has several models which excel at these applications. Take a look at the DS822-MHX which is available in the classic slate color or the brilliant white.

There is also the HM-DS822-MHX
[www.mudhole.com]

and the brand new XF (extra fast models) which I personally believe might be the best blank on the market for walleye jigging.
