replacing broken tip top

In shipping a fly rod, the bottom section of the tip top broke. Even though the model has been discontinued, Batson was able to find a top section. The male section of the second piece slides into the female about an inch. Is that far enough? If not, Ive heard of waxing and someone told me to sand the male down, what is your opinion? Its made for a 4wt line the tip is 33 inches. thanks

Each blank model has a specified amount of overlap that must be maintained. It should overlap by the same amount as the broken piece did.

You could lightly sand the male section but too much sanding will result in thinner walls at that point which might not be able to take the stress there. If there is finish/paint on the blank there, then you have some material that can be removed without compromising the integrity of that area. It might get you the amount you need.

Every time I have worked with Batson they have me send in the remaining sections and they match a new section to go with the existing rod. I would assume they had you do the samething. If so I would trust their judgment on the rod sections fitting. They have never steered me wrong. My fav. blank to build on because all of the great support you get with buying their blanks.
