Rattan rod grip

I was kicking around the idea about doing another rattan rod grip. I have made an attempt in the past and it turned out ok but looking to elevate it this time.

Does anyone have any hints or words of advise?

Thanks in advance!

Eric

Have you tried Raymond Adams' The Rod Builder's Library under the Grip and Seat Tutorial section? It was the subject of a recent topic.

I did see the one but the other is newer. Thanks for pointing it out.

The problem I had on the last one was the starting and stop transition. I think I might attempt to alleviate that by using some wood stock and creating a "shelf" if you will to start on. I used an other cork grip last time as well as a liquid glue and it was difficult at best.

I am wanting to do a rattan grip as well . I am rebuilding an old Lamiglas fiberglass fly rod and going with a bamboo slide band reel seat.

What thread would be best use to spiral in the groove of the rattan? Would size A nylon work and does it need to be the NCP type?

Thanks,

Dave

How much color do you want It would be easier to use NCP no CP to use A thread will give a little color D will give more Then again two threads of different colors will make it look even better ??

Play with it I checked it out and am thinking of different things that can be done

I have also taken rod bond - mixed it and then taken a paper towel dipped in it and spread it over handles for cord handles - That is only if you don't want it to come off

Yeah I am going to have to get a hank of chair cane and have some fun experimenting making some rattan grips. I might try different width cane as well.
