I'm thinking of building a new lindy rigging rod for walleyes and looking for blank suggestions. I'd like it around 7' and ML power. Most blank manufacturers make a blank that is in that length and power so just want to hear some of your suggestions. I'd like to keep it $100 or less.

Yes, the Batson RX7 IP842 and RX8 XP842 have been very popular.
Though now discontinued, we still have some of both in stock.
The new 7' 2" REVS72ML is similar, and for a bit faster action the REVS68MXF is a 6' 8" option.

I'll vote for the 2 power popping blanks too, and recommend the Pac Bay Quickline QLP842 - I am building one right now - very nice - and on sale. The Batson IP842 is another excellent choice.

It depends on how heavy or light you are rigging.

I use the 7 footer for lighter rigging, smaller minnows and leeches.

The 7 1/2 I use for chubs.

The 7 1/2 is faster and has a little more power.

What exactly is a 'popping' blank?

A popping blank is a blank with a reasonably robust butt section, but then about the front 1/3od of the blank is made rather soft and the action on the slightly slower side.

The basic design idea of the "popping blank' is to design and build a blank that has the ability to cast a very light live bait - like a live shrimp - a very long way, but still have the ability to land a robust fish like a nice sized red fish that is found in the Bay and gulf waters.

However, as others have found - this style blank is also a very effective blank for many other inland species for any time that you need a rod with a nice soft tip and especially to fish live bait gently, without tearing off the bait on a cast.

But, because of the stiffer butt section, it also works well for crank bait as well as other typ lure and jig fishing.
