Minima Rings and Saltwater
Posted by: John Schulze (---.honeywell.com)

I need to finish up a project spinning rod for my vacation coming up in July.
It is a 7' 6" Ml MHXL902 blank.

This rod will be fished in saltwater and I was looking at using the Minima guides from Pacbay. My question is will the Minima's stand up to saltwater? Fish will be smaller redfish and other marsh bottom fish.

Thanks

John,

Take a look at this thread [rodbuilding.org].

Capt. Neil's and others' success using minimas on saltwater party boats should tell you all you need to know. It certainly put my mind at ease. I've been stubborn about the tip tops, but see no reason to doubt them now. Those rods have probably seen more fishing than any rod I ever use will.

Joe

I look at the Minima guides and never would have thought they would be strong enough for Party Boats

I have both Minima 3s & 4s on a few of my own rods that are at least 5 yrs old & they have resisted the best efforts of my son to break plus they're nearly always fished in salt water ,occasionally in the creek that runs at the back of my house which depending on the tide is either fresh or saltwater

I use minima guides on some of my spinning rods. The guides hold up great but the tip tops not so good with bluefish. The braid line actually cut into the ring and started to fray the line.
