Braid on a spiral wrapped rod

Can I throw braid on my spiral wrapped rod? One is SiC which I would assume would be fine and the other is the PacBay Minimas. I just do not know how well the transition and stripper guides would do since the line rubs mainly just that one edge.

It should only touch one edge regardless. It will be fine.

Thanks. I had done it before but I ended up switching because I thought the sound meant it was hurting the guides. Definitely going back now though

I use braid on spiral wrapped rods all the time with no issue. Braid always makes a weird sound in the guides under tension. However, if the sound is excessively loud compared to the same line on a non spiral rod with the same guides, you may look into why that is. It usually sounds about the same for my setups.

Been using/building Spiral wrapped rods since 1980, and been using braid on them ever since it was first intorduced to the market with no problems

Why does a spiral wrap have any real advantages to start with?

Because the guides want to be on the bottom of the rod. They act as lever arms and will always attempt to move to the side or direction from which the load is being applied. This is why conventional rods with guides located along the top attempt to turn or twist when fighting a fish. Having the guides on the bottom of the rod eliminates this tendency.
