Your best bet is to wrap on a guide as a tiptop. It doesn't necessarily have to be a single foot guide either - you can double one leg on a double foot guide back around and wrap on the bottom of the rod with the other foot wrapped on top.

I use running guides as tops on center pin reels regularly with no problem. You can try splitting the tube of a guide and wrapping over it. Tom's idea of a double foot guide sounds interesting especially on a heavy rod.

Mike, Have you split a tube before ?? Do you think you can split a micro tip with a size 4 ring and size 7 tube and make it to be able to fit a size 9 tube ??

That is only 1/32 of a difference I would say you could easliy split the tube and make that work.

Shouldn't be a problem. If it were me, I'd tie on a Fuji Belly guide. The wide foot should be a good fit on the 9 tip. It's not going anywhere.

On a small dia. rod a singlefoot fly rod guide would work and look almost natural an d not be too bulky looking.
