I have attached the picture of a new commercial rod that was brought to the shop today. The rod had been received as a gift last winter. The client went to mount a reel seat on the reel last week. When he attempted to mount the reel, a big chunk of the rear grip broke out and the reel seat slid forward on the rod, due to poor assembly by the manufacturer.

Actually the fit of everything was quite good. It was just a case where the manufacturer did not use enough adhesive during the assembly of the rod.

Have it sent back to the manufacturer, it should be a warranty item.

As I explained on another post, I sent an e-mail with pictures of the damage to the manufacturer yesterday. I followed up with a phone call this morning and asked the same question about warranty replacement.
They agreed to replace the rod.

So, then I asked if I could buy back the junked rod for $10 and I would put a new grip and reel seat on the junked rod and return it to service.

The manufacturer then said that since I had sent the e-mail with the pictures showing the complete damage that they would warrant the rod and send a new rod. They also said that if I would send them $10, I could just keep the current rod and save double shipping cost.

Basically the same thing that is done when a vehicle has an accident, the insurance company totals the vehicle and then the client buys the totaled vehicle back from the insurance company.

So, the client gets a new rod replaced under warranty. Then the client gets a new 2nd rod for $10 plus my labor and parts cost to put a new grip and reel seat on the current rod. I will just cut off the current grip and reel seat and install a new reel seat and grip from the butt of the rod without touching any of the guide or butt wraps. Win win situation for everyone concerned.

The manufacturer does not have to pay double shipping cost. The manufacturer does not have to scrap out the bad rod, and the client gets a new rod, plus a 2nd rod at a cost much reduced from the cost of the initial rod.
