converting a 2 piece rod into a 1 piece

Hi all,
I have an old 2 piece spinning rod that I want to covert into a 1 piece rod. I am wondering whether I should just epoxy the 2 pieces together, then build up the lower side with thread and epoxy followed by decorative thread work over the joint or should I cut the rod so the 2 pieces (diameter) match and install a ferrel inside the rod? The second method may be easier to cover with thread and epoxy. Any input would be great!

Thanks,
Jon

Or... you could just put it together and not take it apart. Not trying to be smart at your expense, but you don't have to take a 2-piece rod apart.

Prep the two parts and Like said Glue it together
If you want a better look shape the tip to a taper then glue This way you can run the thread up and over the tip section

Dry Fit the two sections -- first -- To make sure you glue them the way you want them

If I were to do that I would probably misalign the guides.

The guides have been removed, so its just a 2 piece blank

You can just glue the two sections together and incorporate the tie-off of the decorative wrap as the ferrule reinforcement wrap. But out that far much of a decorative wrap may add weight that will be noticeable.

I thought about that, but what I want to accomplish is to butt the 2 pieces together so the joint is flush and the taper is smooth. I thought I might use my calipers and cut the butt section of the rod to match exactly with the female section of the tip. Then, use the male end of the piece I cut and insert it into both ends as a Ferrell. Does that make any sense?

If you're simply going to oversleeve the rod with a permanent joint just make sure the measurements and tapers are a match. You can do an inner sleeve, but depending on the spigot/plug it won't be quite as strong. But the later might be better if you want to put a wrap on top of it.

Lets start from the beginning!! What type of ferrule is on the blank now? Tip over butt, or spigot? Either one is easy to do what you wish, but it makes a difference on the advice you receive here.

its a tip over butt. Male end on butt section, female on tip section.

if you liked it as a two piece and just want it a one piece prep the pieces and glue together

If you want to get rid of the ferrule to make it look slimmer More work
