I use Rattle snake skins to put between my split grips and 4" above the reel seat. I have made about 40 rods that way and people love them.

Make sure you coat the skin with several (2-3)coats of color presurver before applying epoxy or the skin will change color

Ray Adams has a great site with all kinds of rod building info. It is rodbuildingtutorials.com. I just went there and there is a wonderful tutorial on snake wraps by the master Pat Van Zant!

Harry. Mudhole has a video tutorial on their website. Pretty straight forward. The also sell the skins too.
