Custom Rod Thread Art

Hi I'm new to the board and to custom rods. I have just finished reading Custom Rod Thread Art by Dale Clemens and I have a question. I bought the digital version from amazon, only $19, and the book ends like it's the middle of a chapter. He's listing some example weaves and it just ends after the sailboat, no index, no further comments it just ends. Can someone who has the book tell me if that's how it actually ends or if I got a bad copy. I've already contacted Amazon about their software cutting images off and need to know if I have to contact them again.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Gerald

I re-downloaded it and it was the same. I'll wait and see if someone who has it has any info before I complain :)

Maybe you completely downloaded an incomplete digitized book. Either way, you haven't gotten what you paid for, I would not wait to contact them.

Submitted a return for refund to Amazon let's hope they do it. I'll pay the extra $20 for the chapters copy.

In the book, there are 2 sailboats with a shark inbetween. The book ends after the second sailboat.

Nothing after that? No index or anything?

I have a sailfish on page 216 with left list on 217, shark on 218 with left list on 219 and sailboat on 220 with left list on 221. After that is several empty pages for notes. No index. THE END

So it sounds like he's missing pg 221.

Thanks guys, I just find it weird to end a book like that. Now that I know I'll order the hard copy if possible. I was hoping there would have been more weaves in the book or at least a little more detail like color changing. What is a good book for that. I have advanced custom rod building already and have only read half of it.

Two good books are:

Jim Upton's book - A Guide to Thread Weaving for the Custom Rod Builder.
Billy Vivona's book - Decorative Wraps

Hello Gerald.

John hit it on the head, Jim's and Billy's books are what you are looking for, read carefully and absorb well as you go.

Tight Wraps.

Bob,

New Bern, NC.

When Dale wrote that book, weaves were relatively new. Many were just weaving a name on the rod blank, or doing pretty simple weaves, nothing like you are able to see now. Practice and experimentation by those who were really interested in weaves has resulted in some magnificent examples of that art form. While I enjoy seeing what others have done with weaves, I always preferred cross wraps and developing many different ones. Just a matter of preference I guess, and what you wish to spend time learning.
