Just received my St.Croix slingblade blank and I thought the blank would be really smooth, but looking down the blank, it's not smooth like most finished blanks . Is this common with there musky blanks ???

Peter,
Normally they are smooth. Call St. Croix and ask them about that particular blank. They might be doing something unique with that particular blank.

Take care

Is it the same texture over the entire blank, or just in spots or one location?

The blank has ripples , meaning it's not glass smooth Which I thought it would be . Almost like it needs to be sanded down or wasn't sanded down before they painted it .

Can you post a pictures if practical? I build on a ton of the Legend blanks and have never had an issue like that. Sounds like something slipped past quality control.

It has tiny waves from the carbon , giving it a texture .

Seems to me that the Avid blanks I've made have that texture but the SCV's don't. I would call St Croix and have them describe to your what the blank should look like. I expect it is as intended. Do not sand it. I think that would open a big can of worms.

I've never built on any St Croix musky rods that were anything but perfectly smooth. I've built on all the musky lines- Premier, Avid, and Legend. I've never seen any St Croix rod that was anything but smooth. Again, it sounds like a quality control issue.

Mike, it can't be sanded out unless you plan to repaint the blank.
