Metallic Thread for Guide Wraps

Thinking of using some size D metallic for some musky rod guide wraps. Any issues with doing this? I have seen some rods with metallic for guide wraps, but not sure if I have seen it on heavier duty rods.

Thanks - Marc

Keep it simple - that's all I can handle!

In that size, not likely. Even in A, the wrapping strength is cumulative with so many wraps and thus more than enough strength.

X2 on what Tom said. You just got to be careful when you burnish the thread as metallic's are not forgiving like regular thread.

I have used it also
But it is a lot easier to use regular nylon and matallic for trim
When burnishing it will take some of the coating off and the underthread will show

As others have said, you can use it, but generally speaking other thread really works better and holds up better for the long term.

Be safe

X2 Roger.
Last year by his request, I built a rod for a client in metallic blue. Strength wise it held up good but after a year in the Sun it faded so bad you couldn't begin to tell what the color was.

I made a burnishing tool- 1/4 wood dowel handle, and took a small rubber wheel out of a tape player.made a u-shaped bracket, cotter pin and role the matalic no damage.

I have had problems with the metallic thread fading. The strange thing is it only happened with the color blue. I built 3 rods with the same color and after a season of fishing they all turned silver. Luckily I used it for trim bands. MH

I was told at ICBBE that blue and purple are the big offenders on fading.
