SGlass Blank

Customer looking for a S glass blank. Heres his requirement : "I've got one that's sweet for traps, but I'd like to get rid of my Shimano stuff. My other 2 crankbait rods are Loomis. Ones great for dt6s, the others good for 1.5s. I'd like one between those 2 so it could do both". Suggestions?

Check with Lance at Swampland. Either the RFLE 765 or the 726 is going to get the job done. I'm thinking the 765 with a small tip trim to bump the stiffness up just a tad and the rest taken from the butt for the guy's preferred length will get it done. I use my 765 trimmed just this way to 7' for lures ranging from Big-Os to Strike King Series 5 and 6 lures. It's as good as you will find for a multipurpose cranking blank, S-glass or otherwise.

Assuming the dt6s are the Rapala DT 6 lures, the 785 is the blank of choice. What are the 1.5s?

The 1.5 may be the DT FAT 01 or 03's

I use the Backlash Duplicator board, and place a blank on with about the tip stiffness I want as well as the blank that needs trimmed and apply force at different locations until it feels right. The S-glass blank is far more forgiving than a graphite blank. I would have to think a little more carefully when trimming the tip of a graphite blank, and make smaller incremental adjustments. Additionally, the RFLEs come from Seeker untrimmed (7'6" blank come in at about 7'8"), so there is about a half inch of tip that you can tinker with as well. It was about a half inch that I took off of that blank to get it where I wanted it.

Scott,

For those sizes I think the 765 will serve your client well. It's a bit soft for the big DTs, but still serviceable.

Just another suggestion. If you haven't checked out the Rod Geeks S Glass it is worth a look. I have built a good number of them and my clients are extremely happy with the performance. Not to mention that you can get it in any color you like. They are fish well and look great.
