BAMBOO FLYROD FERRULES
Posted by: Chris Womack (---.sub-75-230-158.myvzw.com)

Greetings, this is my first time to submit a project to this site. Hope i am doing it right. Please, tell me if i am not. I just aquired a bamboo flyrod that belonged to a deceaced family member. I can not find any markings or maker identification on the rod. I don't believe the rod to be a collector item or think it is worth much. The rod does have sentimental value to me. I am a flyfisherman and would like to repair the rod for personal use. The bamboo parts of the rod looks to be in excellent condition with many years of service left in it. The ferrules are what i am seeking information about. The male and one of the female ferrules are split open maybe from freezing. I think I will have to replace all the ferrules on the rod. The problem is the bamboo is custom fitted to the existing ferrules. The cork grip will also need replacing. I feel my repair skills to replace the grip are adequate but, any info is welcomed. I am sending pictures. Thanks Chris Womack

You can buy ferrules in various sizes. The rounded portion of the bamboo blank was turned to round, and then the ferrules were fitted to it. Not the other way around.

Pictures will help. more than likely your rod is a Montague or H and I. Many rods from those makers are prone to cracking ferrules. If you unhide your address we can talk more and i can offer help. I may even have the parts you need.
