Just bought a new digital caliper for $14.99!

Dropped into a Harbor Freight today to look around. I don't know how long the sale is, but they have a 6" digital caliper for $14.99 regulary $29.99! It came with a case, a battery, and an extra battery. I just played with it and am really surprised at the quality. Knowing it's an important tool I thought I would give everyone a heads up!

I have been using the same H.F. caliper for about 5 years. Find a source for batteries and get yourself a few spares. If the caliper sits unused for long periods of time the batteries die - even with very little actual "on" time! It is a nice functional unit to have in your tool drawer.

Miles,
With these calipers, it is normally a good idea to disassemble the calipers, clean them up, deburr them, lubricate them and reassemble them.

Also, the $20 caliper is a better caliper that tends to have better settings and a more consistent quality.

Good luck

Snap -On tools sells a very similar set of digital calipers for only a few dollars more. Probably a jap manufacture but they are quality tools and come with exxtra batteries. they seem to be accurate enough for our kind of work.
