I'm looking for a video that demonstrates how to set up the different layouts. 4 axis 8 axis and so on, and information on figuring for the taper in the blank in detail. I cant just read instructions and go do. I have to have it demonstrated to me. Before I just start buying up DVDs that I don't need Id rather just get one good one. Thanks. Re: video's

I'm not sure I know of one single source that covers everything in detail, but I'm sure that you can piece everything you want to know from watching a number of YouTube videos or attending a rodbuilding gathering and asking someone to demonstrate the process for you. As for the actual calculation of center spacing, there are a couple of MS Excel spreadsheets available from various sources that you just enter your rod's measurement values and it will tell you the correct taper spacing.
Sorry I can't give you the answer you're looking for, maybe someone else can. Re: video's

David,
Have you been able to figure it out as yet??? Having worked on butt wraps before the books and videos, either VHS or DVD, I know you can work it out eventually... the one tool that will help you the most is a Butt Wrap Alignment Jig that Dale Clemens shows how to use in his 3M VHS tapes (hard to find but Amazon had one a couple months back)... you can make the jig or purchase it from suppliers like Flex Coat or GetBitOutdoors... The key is marking the blank 2 or 3 locations if there is a fast taper, but typically mid-point diameter measurement will do on a short pattern... Flex Coat has a couple of short books to go with their Jig... each rod is different, I did a 18' surf rod for a captain on the Outer Banks that had a 30" butt wrap, with the butt wrap, weaving and all that was fun; with the 'over pattern' the full wrap was around 5', and that was not multi thread wrapping... Have fun. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
