Is 17" to close for stripper guide to face of reel?
7' rod with 1000 size reel, 6lb line, up to 1/2 oz lures.

Maybe and maybe now. Have you tried it? 6lb line is pretty supple and if you have enough height on the butt guide it may be fine.

It should be 'bout perfect for a KL16H. Probably a little close for a "standard" height guide. When you test I wouldn't go closer...only further. I'm guessing 18 will be optimum.

Frank,
For most 7 foot rods, I normally go with 20 inches for the first guide.

Take care

i would ( if I was worring about it ) test cast the set up Yes it is a pain to test Then move guides around -- but if you want it to cast with the best distance Go for it -- It is how the rod performs not how it looks
