I've read in various posts that if choosing a single foot stripping guide for a fly rod, one should consider a high frame model. Would the Fuji KL-H guides be considered too tall? For example, comparing a sz 16 KW double foot vs the same size KL-H, the KL-H is double the height. It seems like the line angles would be better with the taller guides, but looking at complete rods from some the bigger and $$$ manufacturers, they're using the shorter double foot guides.

My current projects are for a 9wt 9' SH rod and an 11' 8wt switch. Would the guides be too tall, despite using the appropriate sized reels? Does the line angle going to the blank not matter as much for fly rods? (This is my first foray into fly fishing.... going to Alaska next year for some salmon fishing!)

The larger commercial companies are often forced to build to a budget in order to meet a respective price point. Therefore they aren't likely to source the highest quality nor the guide heights that would necessarily be best. However, stripping guide height, within the realm of what's available in these size guides, isn't something that is going to make or break the rod. A little more height will generally reduce line slap on the shoot, but beyond a certain point isn't likely to generate huge dividends and will, at some point, become more subject to damage from rod tubes, etc.

I can't imagine what benefit in casting distance or accuracy a single-foot stripping guide would have over a double-foot on a #9 fly rod, but I will switch to single-foots when there's evidence they result in a more effective fly rod.
