I got a small amount of epoxy on the surface of my cork handle, is there anything that will clean it off without staining or discoloring the handle? Re: Cleaning Rod Epoxy off Cork Handles

If it's dried, you may have a problem. If it's wet, use denatured alcohol or acetone.

Probably the best thing to try is to use a razor blade to get between the epoxy and the cork and pop it off. There is a reasonable chance that you might pop out some of the cork when you do this.
So, just use some Elmers natural cork filler and fill any divots from the operation and then sand smooth. Re: Cleaning Rod Epoxy off Cork Handles

Was still slightly sticky. I have both denatured Alcohol and acetone, figured I go with the mildest, alcohol, seems like it cleaned up pretty nicely. If it leaves any stains, lesson learned I guess. Building it for myself but still trying to keep the standard high.
Thanks for the advice everyone. Scott Re: Cleaning Rod Epoxy off Cork Handles

When gluing parts together always put a piece of painters tape on the edges This way if you get glue on the tape just pull it off Bill - willierods.com Re: Cleaning Rod Epoxy off Cork Handles

Since you cleaned it up nicely, give it a light sanding with 300 or 400 grit for a final clean-up. Re: Cleaning Rod Epoxy off Cork Handles

Scott,
I always keep a tooth brush handy along with DNA. Any time that I do epoxy glue ups, I will go over the work with the tooth brush and DNA as soon as the parts are together to insure that all traces of epoxy have been removed. Be safe Re: Cleaning Rod Epoxy off Cork Handles

I do the same just with small pieces of paper towel and alcohol
Depending on cork quality I would be afraid the brush would take out any fill in the cork Bill - willierods.com Re: Cleaning Rod Epoxy off Cork Handles
