David,
I think your question is like asking whether you like Ford or Chevy better. Everyone loves their Ford. Everyone loves their Chevy. Both of the products that you mention are very good products. To reach the best decision for your self - you really need to try both products, so that you can decide for yourself. It if fine to listen to others and their opinions. But they are just that. They are opinions from a happy user of the product. So, to be fair; you need to try each product, and then reach your OWN decision on which works best for you. I expect that you will find that both of these products will work very well for you. You will find that each product has unique properties when it comes to application, mixing and drying. So, to be fair, each person needs to give each product enough time to properly evaluate each product. Suffice to say -- thousands of rods are finished with each of these products every day. You try, and then you decide which is best for you. Be safe Re: Rod wrapping finish

If I was to choose it would be ProKote light and Threadmaster mixed 50/50.. This gives you the best of both worlds. Extended pot life and hardens a little better then just straight Pro kote. I find that Pro Kote regular is way too thick and sets too fast for my liking. Rolly Beenen Rovic Custom Rods Re: Rod wrapping finish

Are saying that you will mix two different finish epoxies together and then apply? Re: Rod wrapping finish

I have not used Fex Coat in years but If I remember right it did tend to turn yellow after time and also would crack but I have never had a problem with ProCote of TM. Glenn McMurrian Re: Rod wrapping finish

To add to this a bit what what has the longest dry time? I am looking for something that will give me more pot life/working time. I am currently using Flexcoat lite. Re: Rod wrapping finish

ProKote has the best pot life (and is longer to be tack free and dry). Re: Rod wrapping finish

Jimmy
How much pot life time are you looking for? If you apply epoxy correctly you should be able to do a complete rod including the decals in less the 10 minutes. Any more then that and you are just fiddiling with the epoxy and not letting it do its job. Rolly Beenen Rovic Custom Rods Re: Rod wrapping finish

It IMHO would be according to how hot your place is Hotter would mean a shorter pot life I like a cooler place gives me more time to play And more time for the finish to FLOW OUT and Level Bill - willierods.com Re: Rod wrapping finish

Eric your right it is for me. But there are more finishing problems that are caused by people fiddling around with the epoxy after it has been aplied or by not allowing the finish to self level. Therefore this super long extended pot life just dosn't make sense. Rolly Beenen Rovic Custom Rods Re: Rod wrapping finish

Rolly,
I would say my biggest struggle with this is the fact that my application motor for putting the epoxie on is also my drying motor. I built everything myself and my motors only turn at 6rpm. This makes putting finish on a bit time consuming. I build mostly fly rods and I have gotten to the point I will only use one batch of flex coat per section of rod if its a four pc.
