I recently had a Popping rod I made have the tiptop guide grooved from using braid. It was a Zirconium ring. Has anyone had this issue using braid. This is the first for me.
Thanks, Pat Barnard Re: Zirconium guide grooving

Pat,
Normally, there is never a problem with grooving of any style guide or tip. But, if one uses braid and one fishes in water that contains a lot of sand or dirt, it may be possible to have this happen. The solution is really simple. For those very special conditions when this very rare event happens, just pop off the tip and replace it with a silicone carbide tip. Many Musky fishermen who make thousands of casts with a rod and use very heavy braided line in these conditions typically use a silicone carbide tip to take the wear that might be tough on other tips. Generally speaking, the tip is the only one that shows any wear if at all. Be safe Re: Zirconium guide grooving

It was probably a chipped or cracked ring that went unnoticed. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
