Greetings,
I'm looking to build a medium heavy bottom bounce walley rod. I'm looking for a 6'-6'6" moderate action blank. Most everything I find is 7' mod-fast if I'm lucky. Not looking to spend much more than $60 per blank. My question: If I take a 7" mod-fast and cut off a foot from the butt, am I really making the blank more of a moderate action? I would think it would push the start of the bend (under pressure) more towards the center of the blank. Is my thinking correct or am I way off base??? Thanks for your time...Kevin Re: Shortening a blank

You will reduce the power of the blank. you said 6-61/2 ' why not cut off 6"s and call it good. Re: Shortening a blank

It will indeed slow the action, and so would trimming from the tip.

I'd look at the Batson CB66MH-M, I don't think it's any faster that the St. Croix listed moderate action crankbait blank. Re: Shortening a blank

Kevin,
Check out the Batson - Rain shadow blank: [rainshadowrodblanks.com] In particular the IMMP70mh I suspect that this is the perfect blank for your application with no cutting needed. For bottom bouncing, a 7 foot length is normally a very good length. Be safe Re: Shortening a blank
