MIX Mag taper or standard Fresh Water Blanks and also this rod will be for Tout fishing in 30 to 50 feet of water so this one is a bit tricky and he would be using anywhere from 1/2oz to 1oz of weight so would the MHX Mag taper or standard Fresh Water Blank be better and also the action (MH or Med) as this is for deeper water and for Trout from a boat. ?????????????

Action is never "MH or "Med," - action is fast, medium or slow. This is where the rod initially flexes. Generally "mag tapers" have very fast actions with powerful butts and light tips. They are generally faster than other standard blanks listed as fast action.

So you may wish to revisit the blanks and consider power, if that's what you're actually asking about. Do you have any particular model numbers in mind?

Glenn,
For trout fishing, I never use Mag taper blanks.
Rather I use standard taper which makes for an overall more uniform bend in the blank that works well for the soft mouth's of most trout.

Also, you are normally not working weeds or lily pads as one might be doing for Bass which need to be ripped out of the weeds. Hence the use of the mag bass or mag taper blanks that are commonly used for bass fishing.

Any time that I am trout fishing, I would rather err on the side of a softer and longer rod, than a stiffer shorter rod. The rod is a lot more forgiving for the jumps and runs that trout frequently make.

Good luck

Glenn,
Is he throwing, trolling, or jigging?

I would suggest (certainly for a "throwing" rod) a crankbait blank, E.g. Batson crankbait blanks are really cute (for want of a better word ;-)) and have sufficiently moderate action to cope with playing a particularly lively trout.

Cheers,
Michal

Actually you could also take a look at Mudhole's CRB blanks. Inexpensive, cool colours and nice fast/mod-fast action, which should do just fine for trout.
