No! Use epoxy glue, not rod finish Re: Reel Seat

Flex Coat does make a rod building epoxy, as well as a finish epoxy. Ron Weber Re: Reel Seat

I wasn't sure if he was referring to rod finish. Re: Reel Seat

I have a reel seat it is not on the blank ,I am not using the epoxy for the blank. Back to the reel seat it is in two parts the butt cap not attached to the reel seat. the cap needs to be attached to the real seat and I was asking the proper way to do this. Re: Reel Seat

I assume that you are referring to the "rod builders glue" that is listed on the Flex coat web site?
[www.flexcoat.com] Good choice for adhesive for this purpose. Be safe Re: Reel Seat

Gary,
What sort of reel seat is this, such that the butt cap is attached directly to the reel seat. For most reel seats, there is a rear grip on the rod, and the butt cap is attached to the end of the butt cap, not the reel seat. Be safe Re: Reel Seat

Use an adhesive to apply the butt cap to the end of the reel seat. They usually come separated like you found. Some of the adhesives used in wrapping rods include U-40's Rod Bond or Flex Coat's Rod Builder's Epoxy Glue (so it sounds like what you have will work just fine). 2-part built-in plunger style Devcon epoxy available at hardware stors, even auto stores (i think also walmart/target/etc) is sometimes used too but my personal favorite is Rod Bond which resembles a thick paste. I believe it was specially forumulated for building rod parts. Though it takes a few hours to begin setting, it remains somewhat flexible in the end. I use Rod Bond to adhere aluminum to aluminum as well as Al to the blank and even wood. it's versatile.
When using Rod Bond you smear roughly equal parts resin and hardener together onto a clan flat surface (i use foil). I also use a cheap plastic spoon or knife, one each, then toss. For a small piece like a butt cap, i will typically use a flat style toothpick to apply to the surfaces. You should also prep the mating surfaces together for whichever adhesive you choose to use. I use a small piece of a green colored 3M scouring pad. I typically also glue up the reel seat pieces first and allow to cure at LEAST overnight before gluing it to the blank's booty. hope this answers your question. eric fresno, ca.
