There are a number of reasons.
1. Thinning of CP with water or alcohol. 2. Inadequate thread packing. 3. Using very light thread over a very dark blank. Plus a few others, but these are the primary causes. .............. Re: Bleed Thru Question

When you say "bleed" are you talking about the finish penetrating through the thread to the blank, or do you mean the wrap is not staying completely opaque? Re: Bleed Thru Question

The brand is Flex Coat 2 coats overnight drying. No thinning of CP is being done. I feel that I'm packing quite well. Yes a rust colored thread over a very dark blank. Yes the finish is going thru the threads to the blank leaving dark spots in that area. I am puzzled due to that this is the first time this has happened for me. Where is that fine line between to much thread tension and not enough for packing threads? Re: Bleed Thru Question

It could be inadequate drying of the CP. You didn't say how long you let the CP dry nor how many coat you do.
For me I do three coats of CP with about two hours dry time between 1 and 2 and then 2 and 3, then after the last coat I let it dry over night. Chester May your line be tight and your beverages be cold! Re: Bleed Thru Question

Had the same thing happen to me as well last week. I have been building for ~25 years and have never had this issue. Packed tight, clean hands, FC color preserver. When I placed the finish on had spots and dark lines in the thread appear. Cut off wrap and did in NCP due to time constraints for rod. The thread was Gudebrod A regular. Has to be bad CP or the thread is contaminated.

Well the build i'm doing now I'm not going to CP it. Let's see what happens. I CP all my wraps so this will be a new experiment. Re: Bleed Thru Question

Dave,
Great idea. I really prefer the use of nylon thread with no cp and finish applied. I just like the semi transparent look that one gets with finish applied this way. I only use CP, or NCP thread if there is a particular customer request for the look. Be safe Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
