I'm looking for a fly rod that will fish nymphs as well as cast dry flies. I don't have experience with many blanks and I would appreciate some suggestions.
Thanks Re: Looking For 2-piece, 9', 6 wt.

Bruce, spend the extra dough and get yourself a CTS Affinity X or Affinity MX. My main nymphing rods are built on the Affinity X blanks, plus they will do dries with ease. The MX has a slighly softer tip and is a better dry fly rod, but will do nymphs well.
They are also great Dry Dropper blanks, both the Affinity X and MX. Herb L is the guy to get them for you, although you might prefer to get it in a 4 piece configuration, you can easily keep it as a 2 piece most of the time and if you ever travel, the 4 piece is much easier to get on a plane. Hey Bruce
And - thanks Bill. The #6 may be a bit too much rod for what you want it for. I do have some 4pc, #4 and #5 in the MX and X that would be better - I think. Let me know if interested. Normally there is a 2-4 month wait for these blanks. But I did stock some of the above - so I have them here. Regards, Herb Distrib. CTS Blanks Re: Looking For 2-piece, 9', 6 wt.

Also, look at a H2-7A75 blank. Or another one from the same line if you consider it will fit better. Re: Looking For 2-piece, 9', 6 wt.

I just built a 5 weight two piece MHX (from mudhole) which would be perfect for your needs. It actually performs flawlessly with a straight 6 weight line on it. My mate threw 96ft (measured to the end of the line) with it the other day. I can consistently throw 80 plus but more importantly it performs well in close as well and set up with that line would be great for dries. The line used weighs 160 grains exactly over the first 30 feet minus the tip. A 5.5 line is ok, the six is superb but a 6.5 weight gpx is a bit much for it. I video taped him casting it using ubersense if your interested. The build came in at 2.75 ounces and the blank was 1.3. The blanks are available at mudhole at a very reasonable price considering how they perform. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/03/2014 02:42AM by Ben Elliott. Re: Looking For 2-piece, 9', 6 wt.
