I just got a new Renzetti Lathe and have set it up, the thread carriage does not move up and down the rod as it should, it will wind about 1/2" and then back over itself, I ve loosened both the thread tension and the carriage tension with no change, any help would be appreciated

I'm not quite sure what you're saying - you are aware that you have to move the carriage by hand, right? It doesn't roll along on it's own.

The thread carriage has a bit more mass on the Renzetti.

That is what the knob on the front of the carriage is for, to advance it as you use your foot control to spin the rod while wrapping.
