Fuji's efforts to bring high quality product to the marketplace is well known. Odds are very good that it is worth the price being asked.

Go back to work, you can still keep retirement pay. Woops, probably wouldn't do to well as a Wal-Mart greeter

Bill -
Lots of rod builders are retired - with this as a 'second career' or a hobby turned into a small low profit income. The answer is either don't use the thread or up your prices & pass on the costs. If you can't pass on the cost choose another supplier lots of sponsors offer metallic thread NOT made by Fuji.

Considering how much thread is actually used per rod, particularly with metallics, it's doubtful if even doubling the price on a spool of thread would add more than a few cents to the cost of a custom rod.

We immediately lodged an objection to the price of the metallics. The manufacturer immediately dismissed it and told us that was the price. The phrases "volume discount" and "price averaging" do not seem to be translatable into Japanese. It's very good metallic, Bill, but you will ultimately have to make the decision for yourself. We will continue to look for a solution.

I too was shocked at the price on the Fuji Metallic Thread. When someone has had a chance to try it out, please post your opinion. Like Tom says, the price of the thread would not increase the overall costs of the finished rod very much; but why so expensive?!

Bill, you can never know how good a new product can be. I used about a dozen different guides before Fuji came out with the aluminum oxide in light frames, and I thought "how good can they be"!! Well pretty damn good!! They kept improving and have nearly run all other guides out of the market with their continual improvements in ring material. Very few stainless or carborundum guides on the market now. Snake guides are one of the few exceptions. I will give it a try even though I have a good supply of Gudebrod Metalic. Just to see how it compares.
