Trim or Underwrap ?

As a new building and still learning and I am looking for some experienced guidance.
I like the looks of trim wraps at the bottom and top of my guide wraps. I am getting better and they are looking better each wrap. I have also tried doing an under wrap in my trim colors and then doing the over wrap which results in a smoother and neater looking complete wrap. But, am I just doing extra work with the under wrap? What can you pros suggest on this? Thanks Barry Re: Trim or Underwrap ?

On lighter rods the use of an underwrap can be somewhat detrimental as it adds weight, sometimes enough weight in fact, to noticeably alter the speed of the rod. On heavier rods, of course, it's not of much practical concern.

Barry,
There are a number of ways guys add trim wraps to the guides. Tom has an detailed explanation of trim wraps, which is located in the Library link above entitled "Narrow Trim Bands and Thread Inlays by Tom Kirkman" Don Campbell don@sensorfishingrods.com Edited 1 time(s). Barry I'm not sure where you're located. I'm in the Kansas City area and I would be glad to help. I'm sure there are others on this forum willing to do the same.

Hey Tom, Don and Gabe,
Thanks for the help and advise. I have Tom's guide and have been using it, and getting better. I just finished wrapping single foot guides on a rod this morning, complete with top and bottom trim bands and an 8-wrap metalic inlay in the center of the wraps. Overall, it turned out looking nice. I still have the butt wrap to do and will be starting that after lunch. Gabe, thanks for the offer of help, but it's a long way from North Carolina to Kansas City. Again, thanks for the help.
