Hi Guys....I am looking for a little help but not specifically rod building. I went shark fishing for the first time this weekend...the NE seems to be overrun with threshers. I was using a rod I built for wire line trolling on an American Tackle ATX e glass blank from Mudhole...our fine sponsors. AXWT70H...rated for 30-50 lb test. I had a Penn Senator 114H spooled with 80 lb mono. Hooked up to one that we fought for 3 hrs and had alongside 4 times before he wrapped the leader up in my transducer and trim tab and broke off. Then I boated a 12.5 ft thresher after a 2 hr fight. He was 6ft 6in to the base of the tail and 12ft 6 in overall. Do any of you guys have an educated guess at what he might have weighed? I had no winch available to me and had to butcher him in the boat.
Thanks for your responses in advance. Joe Re: Thresher weight
