I just purchased some manima guides xf4xgo8 the ring is the usual style but the foot is countoured like the tf3xgo8 . I called Pacbay and there was no one to help me. did a search but didnt come up with anything explaning whether they have changed the style. Did they? I find it very difficult to wrap a wide foot guide on a slim 3 or 4 wt fly rod (top section) thanks Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/20/2014 10:33AM by Bill Cohen. Re: minima guides

No idea, but you can certainly grind/shape the foot to a narrower profile if you like.

PacBay was at ICAST last week. They will need a couple of days to get things back together. You may want to give them a call this coming Wednesday, or later. Don Becker Re: minima guides

x10 on Mr. Kirkman's comments.
Any time that a guide foot is too wide for the place on the blank where I am tying it on, I will use my belt sander with a pair of pliers to shape the guide foot as needed for a good fit on the rod. I do this in conjunction with prepping the guide foot. [www.rodbuilding.org] I use a similar fixture for any of the various sized small guides that I am either prepping or shaping. It is easy to hold the smaller guides by making such a holding fixture. It is just a piece of rod blank of an appropriate size along with a machine bolt of the appropriate size. I grind the head of the screw flat, so that the screw head does not stick out to get in the way of prepping the guide foot. By making the piece of rod blank and machine screw several inches long , it is very easy to hold the guide. I use a wing nut on the end of the fixture. I also cut the piece of rod blank of a size so that I only have to put about 2 or 3 turns on the wing nut to get the machine screw tight. Be safe Edited 1 time(s). Quote from the PacBay catalogue: "Size 03-W and 04-W have a proportionally wider foot and neck to maintain adhesion to the blank. This allows the use of a micro sized guide for heavier applications and tournament conditions."
Maybe this will help, assuming the guides you bought were the micro stuff Cheers Re: minima guides

Right, by making them wider they are covering a wider range of applications. You'll just have to grind them narrower for use on very small diameter rods.
