Is there a way to make this work?

Seems like I ordered some grip/reel seat components that won't fit my blank. I'm wanting to get this to fit [www.mudhole.com] on this blank [www.mudhole.com], but I'm not seeing it happening. The other stuff I ordered was size 16 and it looks like the blank takes size 17 with a .68 butt.
Also, for clarity when a rod is listed to take a 7 tip size does a 7 tip fit it or do you need to go one size bigger? Bit disappointed that I ended up ordering the wrong sized parts for my sons birthday rod, but I guess I'm only to blame for that. Re: Is there a way to make this work?

The specs for the blank tip diameter are target specs and not necessarily the exact final size of the blank. Blanks aren't exactly precision machined parts and therefore some variance in size can usually be expected. A blank with a target spec tip of 7, could easily run anywhere from 6.5 to 7.5.
Grips parts can be made to fit insofar as they can be reamed or shimmed. If the components are simply smaller than the blank at the point where you intend them to reside, then no, they aren't going to fit in that position. ................ Re: Is there a way to make this work?

The decorative thing for the rear grip is only listed in one size at mudhole so I assumed it was going to fit. One end of the inside is different like gold with scratches, maybe I'm meant to sand that down? Re: Is there a way to make this work?

Shawn
if it is going on the butt on a split grip it should be OK If in front of a seat or forgrip and the rod bends into it and it is REAL tight it MAY cause the blank to fail Bill - willierods.com Re: Is there a way to make this work?

I buy from Mudhole and other suppliers as well. I have almost no complaints about any of them. I'm not on their payroll, but the things I've ordered recently from Angler's Workship have all been pre-fitted by them prior to shipping (you may have to ask them, but it's a free service). Makes it really handy for tip tops and winding checks, among other things. Very good people to work with. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
