Pflueger 1810 trigger spin

Hi,
I am thinking about making a rod to work with a Pflueger 1810 trigger spin. The reel comes with 10 lb. monofilament. The line opening is 12mm. I think that I would start with a size 16 (aprox. 12 mm ID) or Kignan equivalent. I would probably use size 5 or 5.5 running guides. With the line already choked through a 12 mm opening, could I start with a size 12 KLH with out any problem? Is it possible to measure this reel for the guide placement software and get meaningful results?
Thanks

Because the line is already "choked" or controlled at the reel cover, you can go pretty small on the butt guide. Just how small I can't say without actually trying it, but I'd say height is more important than ring size and even then I don't think you're going to see a huge amount of difference between a higher and lower (within reason) guide.

Interesting reels and maybe time to do an article on how set up a rod for them.

Try to build it on a Microwave guide train, then if you get tired of the Pfluger, or find a spinning reel that you like, you can just switch over from there. The Choker Guide Placement will be the same on for most of the rods you build, and they work very well. I love them on ultra light rods, ( usually 7' to 7'6") rods.

Hi,
I got the 6' rod blank as a door prize at the Michigan rod builders Round-Up. I got a Fuji spinning handle (donated by Swamland) and a Winn tour grip (donated by Victor Heale) as door prizes from my brother-in-law. I used a # 8 KLH (size 10 KLH might have worked better if I had one),then size 5.5 single foot to the tip (these I ordered from Utmost, and am happy with the service). I did the static guide placement, and test casted. This worked out very well with this trigger spin reel.
