B&W thread on a black blank

I'm building a rod for my son, and I wanted to use black and white thread on a black blank. I'm planning on C thread black guide wraps over an A thread white under wrap, and alternating black and white stripes for a decorative butt wrap (it's for striper fishing).
I want the white to hold true so should I undercoat with testors or something, and if so, should I use white or a light gray? I expect the white thread on a black blank spells trouble, but how about the black thread over a white undercoat? Is that problematic too? Thanks for any advice! Re: B&W thread on a black blank

use an A size NCP white. it will stay white without the need for an undercoat. Re: B&W thread on a black blank

You may have to white under the white thread
Try white NCP thread WITH a good coat of CP over it Even two on an area where the handle will go If that works ?? If not try the Testors then thread and CP Pack and burnish well Tom K has done some Looked real good You type too fast Gary LOL Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). Thanks for the answers guys,
I should have said I was planning on using ProWrap metallic pearl and black, trying to mimic the colors on a striper.......I don't think that ProWraP metallic is NCP is it? So if I undercoat, is a white undercoat under black thread a problem? Re: B&W thread on a black blank

IF
You pact it well the blank color may not show though If it darkens coat with CP I would try on the butt before Just to be sure Bill - willierods.com Re: B&W thread on a black blank

Pack, pack, pack and pack again. I found it helpful on long white wraps over black such as butt underwraps to pack every 5-8 threads very tightly as you go. It is tedious but I find it to work. I also like to apply CP to NCP white thread anyway as I found sometimes the thread is unevenly treated or in the case of old gudebrod thread thats been sitting around for a while that the result is a bit inconsistent. I have never had a problem with white NCP on a black blank. I use CP on all thread, regular or NCP. Regular white is not the best for use on dark blanks of any color. Nice tightly pack thread wraps is the key. Re: B&W thread on a black blank

I'm told that Bullard makes the whitest white and the blackest black. Re: B&W thread on a black blank

Bullard doesn't make thread. They buy it from YLI. It's the same product as Fishhawk thread. Re: B&W thread on a black blank

I have used a lot of pearl Pro Wrap, and it does hold its color well (my wraps have had CP because the adjacent color needed CP) . But I would still consider a test wrap where it won't show, like under the reel seat/handle. You are trying to get a very specific look, so acheive that look before committing all the wraps.
