Having just completed my first rod I am searching for as much info as my small brain can process. I have read about spiral wrapping on this board and have ordered the back issue of Rod Maker that deals with it. Will you give me the pros and cons of this method or am I jumping the gun with so little experence. Thanks, Dave

The pros are that the rod will be perfectly stable. It will cast just as well as before and the rod will never twist or torque under load.

The cons are that to some people it looks funny.

you build your spiral wrap use it you will never go back to guides on top.i live in Oregon and i build a lot of 9 ft and 10 ft 2 piece steelhead and salmon rods.i use the spiral wrap on them, when you hook a fish and guides are a little out of line they will suck right in line.the guys just love the spiral wrap.but like William said they look funny it took a lot of pr and arm twisting to get them to use them.i have 5 oders for spiral wraps right now and ive got a broken left shoulder and cannot do any thing bummer.well later regards John Bratton
